It could be her conscience and her moral compass, telling her "This is evil and I must repudiate it!"
Equally, it could be that Theresa May's moral compass swings between "This make me popular in the Daily Mail!" or (occasionally and late) "Might I suffer consequences?"
Perhaps there are noises from The Hague, or of a Sanctions list, in consequence of actions that will never be tried as crimes in Brexitstan.

That’s *former Home Secretary* Theresa May being appalled at how much worse the Home Office has become since she ran it (checks: until July 2016) and introduced the Hostile Environment policy which is now bearing "appalling" (her word) consequencs.

@cstross amazing that in this article they manage not to name the people who were in charge of the Home Office during that period, specifically: Priti Patel, Suella Braverman and (briefly) Grant Shapps. They knowingly blocked people in extremely precarious situations from exercising their rights. As far as I’m concerned they belong in The Hague.

@goatsarah @hairyears So she's from the "clueless" wing of the Nasty Party rather than the "Malevolent" faction? (This axis, clueless/malevolent, is orthogonal to the other axis that defines their attitude to wealth acquisition.)
