Sweden would have been at 6% if it weren't for the 20% of us who like to brag about how culturally superior we are because we're not culturally chauvinistic.

@picnoir @clacke Yes, France is the big surprise here for me. Maybe it’s because I mostly ever interact with Parisians, many of which show a different attitude… 😁

@clacke Woah, I did not expect such a low figure for France.

      Also, WTF Greece, ~90%, that's nuts! :D

@picnoir "See Methodology for details" is the opposite of evasive.

      pewresearch.org/religion/2018/…

"The surveys in Western Europe were conducted using landline and mobile telephone from April to August 2017 in 12 languages with a nationally representative sample size of about 1,500 or more adults in each country. More details on the methodology used in these countries, including margins of error and sample sizes, can be found here."

@clacke Wow, the full study also has some pretty surprising figures wrt. public attitudes towards Muslims:

      https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2018/10/29/eastern-and-western-europeans-differ-on-importance-of-religion-views-of-minorities-and-key-social-issues/

They're pretty evasive wrt. how they gathered these statistics, though. I would probably take that with a grain of salt.

@picnoir The figures are pretty much what I expect.

Eastern Europe is more culturally conservative, France has a long acquaintance with and tradition of integrating Muslim immigrants, from even before WWII, Scandinavian and BeNeLux people are very wary of being seen as racist.

It's interesting though that the lines in Scandinavia from the cultural chauvinism map do not show up. So people seem to separate the concepts of "our way is better" and "they're ok to hang with".

Ah! Or it's that the cultural superiority question is asked of people over 18, and the Muslim acceptance question is asked of people 18–34.

@clacke Thanks, I missed that link!

Due to ignorance, I can't generalize this statement. But at least in France, views wrt. homophobia and islamophopia vary widely between the metropolitan areas and some rural areas. I'm affraid they took a quite biaised sample by recruiting the subjects in Paris (largest city of the country).
