Weird things are happening in the #hamradio and #osint communities these days - a new channel marker suddenly surfaced and this one is like none before: it starts at 5MHz and then repeats its short beeps (pulses, actually) every 400kHz until 30.2MHz, exactly 64 carriers, with the same signal, perfectly synced, it would seem.

So far its origin is unknown and it’s purpose and application is also very much unknown 🙂

It’s been heard all over the world, you can try it yourself with one of the many online #kiwisdr receivers 🙂

@ve3qbz @KI7CFO It’s gone, unfortunately, after just a weeks transmission. Maybe we were getting too close, maybe it’s coincidental, who knows 🙂 I’ll be back if it reappears 🙂 73 and have a nice weekend 👍🏼👍🏼

@KI7CFO Yes. It’s been confirmed across different types of receivers and at different locations, some of them far away. Its signal strength seems to vary quite a bit, it’s currently unclear whether that is a propagation thing or the emitter itself, or maybe both. ‘Double pulses’ out of sync have also been observed at certain frequencies, suggesting a second emitter, however that’s all guesswork. Origin is likely European based on signal strength measured at different locations (kiwisdr network) and some very coarse triangulations puts is at central/south Europe, but we need A LOT more bearings from European hams to be more precise. So it’s still a mystery 😃😃 73s

@oz1lqo so it goes at that interval up the whole spectrum? AND it has been heard all over the world, meaning it isn't a local issue? Whoah. Weird. I looked a few hours ago at the freq in the screen shot but saw / heard nothing.
