   At this point, folks making these statements are no different than those who make end-of-the-world predictions.

     @thomasfuchs it won't just happen. It's taking decades if hard work from tens of thousands of very smart people.

     It'll happen like any human accomplishment, in small steps, but general AI is pretty much an inevitability

     Similar to watching old movies and their CGI. When they first came out, the visuals were stunning and then when you go and watch it again you realize the smoke looks like crap, or the water, or the fire, or the skin, or the fabric, or whatever.

     In 10 years we will have experienced these LLMs and we will be able to easily see them for the cheap, shallow, imatations of thought.

     Because that's what they are.
