   I can spot this guy's accent in literally two seconds, he's obviously Swedish:

   How similar do we sound? Can my accent be placed?

   I'm not looking for praise or criticism or anything, there's nothing wrong with a detectable accent as long as people understand each other. I am however interested in accents and how they work, and I'm a very familiar specimen to me, while at the same time it's difficult for me to listen to myself objectively.

   I do have internalized accent shame and accent pride, but I try to counteract it because I think it shouldn't have a place.

     I hadn't listened to this for a long time and wow, I sound much more Swedish than I remembered, haha. I can place myself within a couple of seconds as well.

     I don't sound this Swedish in my head, but this was 5 years ago. I owe HPR many shows, maybe I should create the time for myself to record something again for an up-to-date sample after 5 more years of daily professional conversation in a French-English and Cantonese-English environment.

     @alysonsee His vowels and prosody are 100% Swedish, definitely no other Scandinavian dialect, I'm sure of it. I can even say he's from central Sweden. 😊

     @clacke I could place your accent as Swedish (Krister Henriksson comes to mind) but I am less sure about the origin of the DC-10 video guy other than Nordic. I might have guessed Danish except that his vowels are more closed.

     What is the shame about? I work every day with people from all over Europe, India, and the English-speaking world. Accents are the norm.
