I was randomly looking at E21 of "Ty and That Guy" because I was searching for some specific topic that was mentioned in *some* episode of it and this one came up when I searched for it.

In the end there was nothing about that topic at all, but it was so good I listened to the whole thing. I've dipped into TatG before, just clips, but this is the first time I gave it a chance and listened to a whole episode, because I was just captivated by the initial conversation and got attached.

If you want that deep dive into what each episode of #TheExpanse was about, get to know what the real-world people behind the show are like, and you enjoy two friends waffling about a thing they're passionate about for an hour, while going off on tangents *all the time*, this is the show for you.

I know there are many people out there who would have zero patience for this kind of show. But if you're like me and you enjoy that parasocial relationship with people who make cool things, I highly recommend #TyAndThatGuy .

I'm probably going to start from the beginning, make this my goodnight story, and when I'm through their talk about every episode of the whole TV show, I'll enjoy rewatching the TV show with a new appreciation.

Chatham is a huge fan of the show, and a huge fan of Sci-Fi, horror movies, directing, storytelling, obviously acting, and what we get is a deep dive into what made the show and the episode in question tick, what the plot points meant for the greater story, how the backstories of the characters went into their choices, and Franck is there as Chatham's guide and our guide.

"Ty and That Guy" is a conversation between Ty Franck, one half of "James S. A. Corey", and Wes Chatham, who played Amos on "The Expanse", written by said pseudonym.

("I'm That Guy" is a famous and powerful Amos scene)

I think each episode is about a particular episode of the TV show, at least that's the main format. Sometimes it's the two of them, sometimes they invite someone on.

You'd imagine that it's the author talking about their baby with their friend and minion actor, but no, in at least this episode and I imagine all of them, Franck is hanging out and Chatham is the driver.

It's wonderful to see, because however much an actor loves their craft and however much they love their colleagues and crew, a lot of effort goes into creating a thing and then it's often like "ok, I did that thing, whew", maybe they want to see once how it came out or maybe they don't watch it at all. That's probably how I'd be if I did it professionally and had the next job coming up after the thing wrapped. Chatham is not, ahum, that guy.

@clacke Yeah, that show is great. Chatham is so deep into the show and also just a great person to listen to. It's a lot of fun if you like the Expanse.

Oh, now I remember, there is one episode of TatG where they mention that tE tries to be realistic when it can, but silence in space?

I believe they'll say rocket engines firing is a storytelling device and an emotional component of a scene and you can't move a ship in silence, it kills the scene. TV craft before realism, sorry.

If someone knows which episode that is, I'd love to hear Franck and Chatham discuss that.

@xurizaemon Yeah, if you look back at the root post it's Ty and That Guy and they used to mainly discuss The Expanse, which they each had a hand in making, behind (Ty) and in front of (That Guy) the camera.

Your viewpoint makes a lot of sense, of course, and there is exactly one scene in the show where Naomi jumps from one ship to the other, and there we get her audial point of view, so we hear decompression, it's dead quiet as she jumps, and then we hear air rush in, and the quiet is so powerful in that particular scene.

In other scenes though, like sure, if you hear one ship then you can say it's from within that ship, but when we can hear multiple ships firing rounds, which I'm sure happens in some scene, we really just have to accept storytelling license. =)

@clacke could we just say "this audio is from within the ship"? That's no weirder than hearing cockpit dialogue while seeing an external pov is it?

@clacke my context: idk what TatG or tE stand for so I may be way off :)

Edit: I see "Ty and that guy", and I'm still none the wiser. But that's ok, hopefully ok to discuss space audio in film regardless!
