    "“Trump Is the Nominee. Fascism Is on the Ballot"

    Author Jeff Sharlet, expert on the far right, discusses "another landmark in the acceleration of fascism in the US."

    Sharlet describes:

    * how Trump is appealing to broader groups of Americans

    * why the political press is failing to capture the fascist movement

    * the importance of resisting its growth.

    “It’s popular front time. It’s broad coalition time.”

      Fascism was already on the ballot when the Supreme Court voted for George W. Bush for president.

      I think we oughta go back 6000 years or so to the invention of class hierarchy...

      Has less to do with class hiararchy and more to do with corruption and greed being common among our politicians. Their class isnt the problem, the fact that we pick the corrupt people, regardless of their class, is.

      Im not sure that makes the argument you say it makes.

      I mean you point out, and i would have agreed with this befor eyou stated it, that the existence of greed and corruption is magnified as population density increases. This is clearly true. This in no way is suggestive that class structures cause it, rather than the simple population density being the cause.

      As for class hierarchy as an extension of gender hierarchy, that too is a tangent and even if we agreed one is an extension of the other that doesnt advance the underlying point you were trying to make. So it is moot as well.

      @freemo

      Briefly, the argument goes (as you would recognise, given your cultural background) that, prior to the city state, humans had spent hundreds of thousands of years in relatively egalitarian groups. Greed, etc. were there, but were controlled by group norms & rules.

      The city state bred mass slavery - class hierarchy in the sense of permanent, racist othering (born a slave, always a slave)

      Below is about the origins of class hierarchy as an extension of gender hierarchy.
