     That's not to agree with OP's value judgement, but I did myself spend a few years talking with a pedophile without realizing he was, in fact, a pedophile.

     I understand, and I believe that the offending/pro-contact groups think this as well.
     
     That said, based on the way you're approaching it, I think you - you personally - understand that having this type of sexual contact does cause quite a lot of harm. That's good - I've encountered quite a few people around here who do not understand this.
     
     Most around here are not going to slam someone for liking lolicon (we federate and interact with varis, who post such content regularly), but when such material is conflated with real children then this brings up very natural concerns.

     to 2) Offending and Pro-C are 2 different things, most pro-c i learned to know here, might fight for these things, but do not offend or have offended they are just every day normal people

     to 3) its an urge to express love and feelings for children not cause harm to them, this is what none of us want, also you can have urges and dont need to suppress them, there is legal material like lolicons to live out these urges without doing any harm.

     @Consuela @lina I believe the thing you said is true, but it doesn't really work as an argument on this side of fedi.
     
     1) There's a strong culture of skepticism of scientists here. The scientists that *are* here are usually vocal about how much bad research gets pumped out (I myself have lost more than 1 year's worth of work trying to replicate falsified research).
     2) When people around here do interact with pedophiles, it tends to be the offending/pro-contact pedophiles (and as part of a dogpile).
     3) Regardless, it is still a group of people who identify as "someone who has an urge to cause harm to children, even if they're suppressing it." This is actually very subtly harmful: someone who has such urges but does not make such urges part of their identity is more likely to make effort to fix or remove those urges. The power of constantly screaming "no, this is not who I am" cannot be understated.
     
     The third point is the one that actually addresses the point - the first two are simply there to clue you in on what type of people you're talking to right now.

The most good I can hope to do is to convince one of these people to delete their collections and to go nofap for a while - which is a colloquially well known way to remove unwanted paraphilias. If the opportunity arises, I'm gonna go that route.
