@ryanhoulihan Srsly, the cost has gotten absurd. My zipper busted on my "cheap" winter coat that I bought less than 3 yrs ago and even that wasn't cheap. Now I'm just layering fleece and polyester under my raincoat because the cost of replacing it is too much to think about right now.
@ryanhoulihan@nicolegoebel I bought a timberland pro winter coat from Burlington. has three removable separately wearable layers. waterproof, etc.
It's about 20 years old now, and still good for the $100 I spent on it.
I've looked at new coats. companies just don't make them like they used to. the fabric is cheap, the zippers are cheap, but most importantly the stitching is cheap.
You might have luck looking at "wear it again" stores, and might find something retro and cute though.
Have you considered military surplus? The Polish officer's coat I bought two years ago for 60€ is the warmest winter coat I've ever owned, warm even in -30°C.
I know finding these is a bit of a dice roll, but Varusteleka seems to get shipments semiregularly, you can subscribe for an inventory alert, and they sell these on both sides of the Atlantic, I believe.
You can button these to both directions, if that's a criteria, and the backwaist can be adjusted, somewhat.
