@simonzerafa My total costs incurred are about £170k, of which about £70k has been donations, £40k that I have already paid, and £60k which I'm awaiting a bill for.
I have the government's number, but I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to share it.
@ryanc And now I get your point about the tax form. Like, what do you do when your gender *as recorded on your birth certificate* isn’t available on the form? I imagine HMRC would just say it’s your AGAB, and that you’ll be breaking the law if you don’t disclose it. So shitty.
@cloudguy Besides, I do lots of things that aren't sensible, like reply to arrogant, ignorant fools who think they know more than several lawyers who have spent hundreds of hours researching an issue.
@ryanc good luck with the appeal. I have had the response of "it's too awkward to update our computer systems" as a response to me asking for 'Mx' (or blank) as a title a bunch of times. I have managed to get some sites to add it a bunch of times too, but I'm worried a ruling like this will hamper future requests. I'm rooting for you!
@considermycat We'll have recognition of nonbinary gender in the UK by 2030 at the latest, but if I were putting money on it it'd be late 2026/early 2027.
@ryanc I've been saying the same thing about it being a GDPR violation for places to not have Mx/blank with varying results. My biggest wins have been Morrison's and National Railcards adding Mx to their sign up forms, and the latter also removing gender validation when using passport to verify age for age-restricted Railcards. Biggest loss is Iceland (supermarket) who I first asked to add a non-binary title back in 2017 and they still refuse.
@ryanc That must have changed since I last tried it cos that certainly wasn't always the case. Even less reason to not add the option, but at least now I'm not out of pocket when shopping there. Thanks!
@ryanc was about to message you. unfortunately the Iceland website and app breaks down when you do anything related to the bonus card if you have an unset title and it tells me to call customer services so that's a fun conversation I'll have at some point.
I really need to get back to working on my tracker for sites that allow Mx or not. It became a nightmare to keep on top of very quickly and is very out of date. https://dontgender.me
@TheShillito they have a male/female column in their data (national insurance records) that they have essentially conceded that they don't use for any purpose that would be frustrated by people being allowed to change it freely
@ryanc for which bit, sorry? A request for any gender data they have on us and to fix it? I think I already have Mx for a title with them, at least through the PAYE stuff I think (I'm not self employed so I don't file a tax return) but curious if they have any other markers.
@TheShillito they claim it's potentially a record matching tiebreaker if full name and date of birth both exactly match, but otherwise is only used to oppress trans poeple.
@TheShillito The Information Commissioner's Office is currently reviewing my complaint.
I'm considering trying to get them investigated for criminal misconduct, as the Information Commissioner's Office pointed out that the Gender Recognition Act applies in handling some of the information in my complaint.
