BUT.
You didn't talk about the elephant in the room: federation of long-form text!
We have two major platforms that produce long-form text (WordPress and write.as).
Does Tony see the realtime mixing of these text streams as a net positive or negative? How would incorporating long form text from the fediverse into Medium impact the experience for readers?

Also, what content format is allowed for objects? HTML in the long-form term can include many different HTML elements, from SVG, equations, etc. A long-form text object could be divided into several sections. Do you want to support a reduced HTML subset, or something extensible as XML people dreamed?

@darnell @manton is micro.blog "long form text"? I'd use that term for, say, multiple-paragraph texts. Maybe 1000 words, 5+ paragraphs or more. 1 paragraph is definitely "microblogging", and 2-4 is a gray zone.

That said, how could we forget about #Microblog by @manton! I know Micro.blog does not get as much attention as #WordPress & #WriteFreely, but many people use it.

The reason I gave was that I didn't think it was a healthy community experience to have our community simply syndicate here even if it did pull some comments back to their posts. I think this is a social experience and to do it well you have to be present and having a similar experience to everyone else.
