Still not responding to users of the GenX ellipsis and the quality of my replies has gone up drastically. No more trying to figure out “have they finished? Are they being passive aggressive? Are they just being a wet blanket?” Just ignoring them or muting them into the void.

Chris Limb (catmachine@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 18:16:07 JST Chris Limb @BethanyBlack It's definitely a bad habit I've got into that I've been trying to break myself of recently.
Oddly I NEVER use it when whatsapping with siblings so maybe it is a confidence thing.

Bethany Black (bethanyblack@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 18:18:18 JST Bethany Black @catmachine I think you’re probably right, and I think that comes across and for me makes me go “well if you don’t have confidence in what you’re saying why should I?”

Green Roc Thoughts (greenroc@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 18:24:56 JST Green Roc Thoughts @BethanyBlack I've had people compliment me for breaking up my sentences. I did not realize my instinctive "..." (where my mind pauses, or where I will add a reply shortly after) was a thing people block over. I dont understand the offense, and I dont wish to be a bother to anyone. I dont recognize which Gen I am in, born in 1977.
I intend no malice. /genuine -

Chris Limb (catmachine@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 18:25:43 JST Chris Limb @BethanyBlack I have a similar problem with using "I think" when in actual fact I *know*.
I have trained myself out of writing "it felt like" and "it seemed like" in fiction so I know I can change my ways when it comes to words.

Bethany Black (bethanyblack@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 18:29:36 JST Bethany Black @GreenRoc once I noticed it as a pattern it became super annoying and it’s generally people who came of age in the 80s and 90s that I’ve seen using it. It’s most irritating to me when it’s at the end of a post which is how most seem to use it because there should be another half to the thought, or they’ve just forced a pause on me in conversation

Green Roc Thoughts (greenroc@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2024 18:31:57 JST Green Roc Thoughts @BethanyBlack To Be Continued... And then there are no further messages, now I understand. I expect a reply if a toot ends in three dots. No reply from the typist annoys me too.
