Finally found a clinic that offers self-paid #covid vaccination. And it's the new XBB too! I will get that and the flu shot on Saturday.

The flu shot is 350 HKD (~40 EUR) and the covid shot, whether you take the bivalent or the XBB, is 1600 HKD (~190 EUR).

I guess that's why many clinics don't carry the covid shot, most people won't pay that with their own money. My budget was "probably won't pay 3000".

A person who hasn't had covid and I got what was probably the same cold last week (not covid). I was knocked out for two days, the other person sneezed a bit.

Covid is on the rise and if I can lower the risk of getting it a third time that would be nice. I also prefer not to be a vector if I can avoid it.

@tobi82 From a for-profit clinic or at-cost from the national healthcare system?

@tobi82 @clacke yesterday when I read this I did a quick search and I found www.cdc.gov/vaccines/programs/… for the US with prices above 80$ for MRNA vaccines, among the expensive ones.

OTOH, there is www.reuters.com/business/healt… which talks about 19.50 € per dose in 2021 for the EU (but that it was going to increase).

I would read from this that the contract with the pharma is whatever they manage to squeeze out of whoever is buying :(

It's a full private service and in my case it was off label because I'm younger than 65. So I was really charged 100% of the service and the medication.

So I guess the contract with the pharma is 40-50 Euros per dose. And 10-20 euros for the service in the hospital.

@valhalla @tobi82 Sounds about right, except I'm surprised they managed to squeeze more out of HK clinics than US ones.
