     hope it's okie to jump in, but if it's your first meeting and you don't know them IRL, meet for an activity in a public place, like indoor minigolf or arcade or sth. something where you can play together, have something topical to talk about and have positive experience. if it does not work out, you can excuse yourself and run.

     mm, that probably means you can skate? just make sure he can skate as well. guys like it when they can impress. it's best to pick an activity he's good at.

     by being genuinely interested in the other person and asking genuine questions, uncovering more of their personality, making them feel good because they can talk about themselves and you are interested. that's a learnable skill.
