iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Monday, 15-Jan-2024 14:44:32 JST iced depresso i'm not sure if we should consider excising the VCs from society.
there are many people who like that whole process, but it seems to produce... less than ideal results. compared to self-owned companies. -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Monday, 15-Jan-2024 14:46:07 JST iced depresso i suppose some of it comes down to a self-owned company is responsible to its customers. with a VC backed company you may be the person paying for services but you are not the customer. the venture capitalist firm is that company’s customer, and their #1 priority is making the VCs happy. the fact that you even consume the product and pay for it is just really incidental on getting the VC’s more money in -> more money out.
maybe i’m just bitter and tired of seeing people be allowed to call themselves open source and then bricking up the doors with corporate editions.

Not sure what your use-case is, but could maybe slap e.g., authentik in front to sso then pass the authenticated session through its reverse proxy 🤔 🤷♀️ -

iced depresso (icedquinn@blob.cat)'s status on Monday, 15-Jan-2024 15:13:38 JST iced depresso @incognitum basically if its *genuinely* open-source i'll look at it later. if its commercial software in a trenchcoat i will deny them their marketing gimmick and treat them like commercial software. that's how they actually behave by the way--if you go sign up for Neo4j licenses they ban you from using the OSS versions at all in the company.
this is purely marketing poison and we should poison everyone who distributes it 🙏
