@thomasfuchs I was juuuust about to switch to and pay for Kagi, but then they had to partner with Brendan Eich and now I have no plan. Still using Qwant, but it's getting bad.

Peter Humburg (pytheas@aus.social)'s status on Monday, 15-Jan-2024 07:10:32 JST Peter Humburg @thomasfuchs I'm not saying you should keep using Google but I think it is worth pointing out that the snippet highlighted by Google is actually from a YCombinator post that highlights the problem with Chat GPT.
Not that there aren't issues with the results returned here, but I think the lesson from this isn't so much "LLMs ruin internet search" (although that may also be true) but "don't rely on skimming of search results if you want reliable answers". I'd expect that to be true for any search engine. The problem is that the Google snippets encourage you to do exactly that.

Pete Keen (zrail@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 15-Jan-2024 07:18:12 JST Pete Keen @thomasfuchs I set up a SeerXNG instance the other day which can aggregate a bunch of other engines. It's moderately snappy but can't set is as default on iOS so it hasn't seen a ton of use yet.
