      @fediversereport I recently deleted my #bluesky account.

      Too many bots and not very active users with unique content...

      @darnell @bedirthan @fediversereport my feeling is that it is now for the #fediverse to lose the battle.

      The world is not waiting for yet another old style social media walled garden.

      One external risk was (and maybe still is?) the #metaverse, in the sense of it being an orthogonal dimension (pun)

      But the biggest risk is "internal". Not delivering on the promises, in terms of performance, ease of use and the quality of experience and empowerment afforded to the early adopters

      @bedirthan @fediversereport I am not a fan of #Bluesky, but it is not due to who owns the platform.

      It is incomplete. Even #Threads seems ahead of it right now.

      That said, I believe the world will embrace #ActivityPub as the standard for Federation this year.

      @darnell @fediversereport owned and operated by a billionaire, limited membership in closed ecosystem until this week, no one uses their protocol

      and certainly not part of the fediverse and never intends to be.

      For all the angst that Threads gets in the Fediverse the unwavering support for Bluesky due to some future intent to be decentralized is sure something

      @bedirthan @fediversereport Technically #Bluesky is a defederated software/platform, as they use the #AuthenticatedTransferProtocol (or #ATProtocol): https://atproto.com/guides/overview

      Realistically I do not see many servers running the software, so it might as well be centralized.

      @fediversereport I'm curious why the quite centralized BlueSky is part of your coverage

      @bedirthan hey, thanks for asking!

      I write about social networks (beyond just fediverse stuff) more broadly at my personal website, which is where I first published this story about Bluesky (https://laurenshof.online/bluesky-has-3-million-accounts-invites-going-away-soon/ ). I sometimes include stories and coverage from beyond the fediverse in the weekly Fediverse Report when I feel that it has direct impact on the fediverse.
      Bluesky saying they'll remove the invite system soon is one of those cases, so thats why I included it in this weeks update

      @bedirthan also on a more practical note, I was planning on writing about Friendica's new Bluesky connector this week as well, so there would have been more of a thematic cohesion between the stories. I simply ran out of time for this week, so that'll come soon
