    Human ‘behavioural crisis’ at root of climate breakdown.

    Or, getting past the headline:

    “We need to become mindful of the way we’re being manipulated.”

    “For decades we’ve been telling people to change their behaviour without saying: ‘Change your behaviour.’ We’ve been saying ‘be more green’ or ‘fly less’, but meanwhile all of the things that drive behaviour have been pushing the other way – and we’ve been wondering why nothing’s changing.”

      @GeorgeCzernuszka "we propose an interdisciplinary emergency response to the behavioural crisis by, amongst other things, the shifting of social norms relating to reproduction, consumption and waste"

      The article is both correct in identifying root causes and naive in the proposed "solution".

      The "shifting of norms" is nothing less than overhaul of centuries of entrenched maladapted behaviors.

      As a control we can't even resolve minor territorial disputes without resorting to lethal warfare.

      @GeorgeCzernuszka for sure reaching any meaningful state of sustainability will be an epochal event in the evolution of human civilization (if it happens), at least as important as the agricultural and industrial revolutions *combined* (as it must in a sense "fix" both).

      Its not inconceivable but it will require very deep behavioral changes that we are not yet even scratching the surface of... The article you shared will be revised over the course of the century countless times...

      @phiofx

      Given who we are, as a species, the current situation probably became inevitable once a group planted some seeds, corralled a few hoofed animals, and found that they had more than enough food for everyone who did the work.
