     The question is, why are they telling us this and don't use the element of surprise?
     There are no negotiations to speak of b/w #Russia and #Ukraine in which thus news could be used to put pressure on #Ukraine.

     Not only do they intend to demoralise Ukraine and the West (Ukraine being less susceptible because they are more aware of the true horror a Russian victory would bring).

     It is also about improving moral in Russia. Despite the appearance Russia likes to foster, a large number of Russians are aghast at their lives being impoverished (or terminated) for the incompetent pursuit of Putin’s Imperial dream.
