     @clacke @blakeisawolf A while ago I read that this program doesn’t allow companies to write off donations made this way. I don’t blame anyone for suspecting foul play but it is apparently legit in this case.

     @hypolite @clacke @blakeisawolf Confirmed. Aside from the tax deductions, I was skeptical that the charities even got all of the donations. This short clip from the Today show clarifies how it works.

     @hypolite @clacke @blakeisawolf Either the money is effectively off the books, or it is a $X income increase and a $X deduction. The later will make it look like they donate more money, but neither should change how much tax they pay.

     @clacke @blakeisawolf Yeah, it's not a tax dodge, but next year they will have ads bragging about how they gave $XXX in charitable donations, without bothering to mention that it wasn't their money.
