been reading about Yugoslavia stuff. I thought the 90s wars were confusing, with each of the three regions having three ethnic groups inside them (so 9 factions, croation croats, croatian serbs, croatian bosniaks, bosnian bosniaks..etc.) but when you get to ww2 they also all have either an Axis or Allied allegiance too, so there's basically 18 groups all fighting each other, and some of them like Ustase and Chetniks were allied with each other despite being on opposite sides too, I can't make head or tail of it

another thing I thought was amusing is that antifa and shitlibs like to big up the ebil fascist nadsi Croatian Ustase during ww2, and tell everybody this group was genocidal and far right and killed lots of non-Croats so you should dislike them. but then when Serbs completely agree with that assessment "yes, they tried to wipe out us Serbs, we must stop and resist them!" the same shitlibs then accuse the Serbs of believing in myth, rumour and fairytale fictions because they aren't supposed to use that narrative to fuel their own nationalism.

      >The historian Basil Davidson contends that the "recourse to 'ethnicity' as an explanation [of the conflict] is pseudo-scientific nonsense". Even the degree of linguistic and religious differences "have been less substantial than instant commentators routinely tell us".[citation needed] Davidson agrees with Susan Woodward, who found the "motivating causes of the disintegration in economic circumstance and its ferocious pressures".[19] Likewise, Sabine Rutar states that, “while antagonistic representations of the ethnic-national past indeed were heavily (mis-)used during the conflict, one must be careful not to turn these forceful categories of practice into categories of historical analysis”.[20]

libtard historians still cannot even admit that Yugoslavia broke up along ethnic lines lmao. its the uhhh the economic circumstances ok, ethnicity doesn't play a role in conflict ever fuck you ok

they need to believe in the universal brotherhood of man because its what holds the empire (and communism) together, and Yugoslavia is a gigantic smouldering example of that not working, and their only response is to cope and ignore it.

      >The individual republics organized multi-party elections in 1990, and the former communists mostly failed to win re-election, while most of the elected governments took on nationalist platforms, promising to protect their separate nationalist interests. In multi-party parliamentary elections nationalists defeated re-branded former Communist parties in Slovenia on 8 April 1990, in Croatia on 22 April and 2 May 1990, in Macedonia 11 and 25 November and 9 December 1990, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18 and 25 November 1990.
what happened is communism as a political formula no longer worked, and the strongest constituent element in Yugoslavia, Serbia, decided to pivot towards a new political formula which was stable for them, which was Serbian nationalism. and this created a new stable point that caused the remaining three republics to break away.

@augustus Communism can only briefly be popular by latching itself onto ideologies and movements that actually ARE popular, like nationalism and anti-colonialism in Vietnam.

@ArdainianRight @ChristiJunior US would also need something as strong enough as Serb nationalism was for Yugo to help get the ball rolling by alienating everyone else, I'm not sure they have something like that, unless maybe the neocon histrionics
