     @Awoo they add variety and im kinda used to them being playable, cuz otherwise alliance is human, short bearded human and even shorter human and horde suddenly loses most of its rogue population
     idk what other races could be made playable to substitute the ones you would remove

     But now, by what I've seen, Classic already reached the point where the game started sucking a lot, so people don't even have this anymore.

     I remember Blood Elves not being able to be Warriors. Due to the hard cap of classes per race.
     
     I always took it more as a sign that the game is dying that Blizzard starting releasing limitations.

     @Awoo @lina yes, they changed it years later, but back them race/class combinations were pretty restrictive. Heck, IIRC, Trolls and Gnomes had only like, 4 classes available to pick in vanilla. And also back them the Horde and the Alliance were completely separated, they could only fight each other, no way to do raids together.
     This actually helped a lot to make the factions and races distinct from each other, but I bet players (or at least a vocal subsection of the players) complained that it "hindered their ability to be creative" or some bullshit like that, and then Blizzard started changing it.

     @Awoo @lina IMO, they actually just did this shit to "balance the classes", and give Paladins to the Horde and Shamans to the Alliance, because people are dumb and want complete symmetry, and for some reason they thought it would not be "lore friendly" to just let Orcs be Paladins and Humans be Shamans.
