      ehh, at least my in my experience literally nothing works the first time on linux desktop. I can plug in a monitor on Windows and expect it to work properly.

      Try updating every program on windows and windows itself.

      "Do you want to allow this specific program to take control of your computer" x 100

      "Agree to term of service" x 100

      "Select install directory" x 100

      "Installing" x 100

      "Click finished or you will need to reboot" x 100

      Waiting for windows to update itself and reboot three times doing it, priceless.

      Never had this issue, unless it's something very specific, like a websrver based app with a psql db.

      What flavor of linux have you tried? You may want to try kde plasma on debian or arch or even manjaro.

      I never use debian for desktop. Only arch. Debian is great for file / web servers though. Arch sucks a dick there. 🤷♂️

      I just run what's best for what I'm doing.

      I want to use my computer with minimal input so I use Windows.

      I want to run my webserver effectively and with low overhead, so I run headless debian.

      I used to dual boot Linux on PC for development but I'm slowly moving away from coding (well... trying).

      @burner @kirby @diego @threat my experience is that everything works for me unless I tinkered with it somehow. which I often did, but those are my fault so :shrug_kon:

      exception is certain printers where the manufacturer doesn't bother to properly support linux. but that's more a manufacturer issue than a linux issue so I just avoid buying them and problem solved

      the monitor thing's weird, not sure exactly what's causing it. I'm using a laptop.

      the initial problem was really bad screen tearing, I read a bunch of forum posts and most of them said install nvidia drivers, so I did. After I installed the drivers, the monitor was just black when I plugged it in. Don't recall whether I installed the free or proprietary drivers, think it was the free ones. I think it's the only issue I've ran into that consumed more than a few minutes

      yeah, I used debian because I use it for my VPS so I'm fairly familiar with it. Works great there.

      I frequently use rsync, ssh, sshfs, various bash scripts, etc. when I'm working, so linux is necessary for a complete office suite.

      I'd never use linux as a daw though. That's why I have an overclocked i9-9980xe running windows. 😏

      Reaper, which is my main daw, officially supports Linux, but having to deal with audio driver jank for simple stuff like RustDesk makes me very hesitant to try it on Linux

      I can't use native instruments, or waves, or ik multimedia, or toontraks plugins(without sone wine layer), etc. Plus, studio one is tits.

      They did just release studio one for Ubuntu, but it's severely limited.

      @burner That's untrue and you are coping I have an Akai MPK Midi Play and I can connect it through my DAC to FL Studio input and record it.
      I can also plug my guitar to my DAC and then pass it through guitarix to fl studio (or just use Guitar Rig in FL Studio) but I find guitarix better.
