     What I don't understand is how the beans sprouted. They didn't fall out of the bag into moisture (or light!). They were dry, somehow they sensed the water in the jug? And they poked through. The hole was self-plugged, the jug was actually collapsed from the pressure of the water being pulled out without a second air escape hole. It didn't flood the closet because it was just being slowly sucked out to feed the sprouts.

     Today in strange happenings, we have a funky little closet off the kitchen we call “the secret cupboard” that holds pantry items. A year or so ago I cleaned out a thick plastic jug to use as emergency water in case of disaster. The secret cupboard is cool and dark year-round so it seemed like a fine place to store it. Greg climbed in there today and discovered a few beans in a bag had spilled, and grew roots - which poked through the jug! Those are some strong beans!
