Pour one out for everyone getting a cheap flimsy telescope from Amazon for Christmas and they use it once and it’s so bad it will just collect dust and get thrown out later this year

Eric's Edge (ericsedge@bitbang.social)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Dec-2023 04:32:46 JST Eric's Edge @thomasfuchs I’ve been looking at portable table top reflectors and folded light path designs for the travel trailer. Not sure what to go with. It’s been a long time since I looked into buying one and everything has changed yet stayed mostly the same.

2. Table top dobs (e.g. 4.5”) are indeed best for visual if you want something very portable

Thomas 🔭🕹️ (thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Dec-2023 06:34:15 JST Thomas 🔭🕹️ @IMcPwn for deep space you want a tracking or goto mount and a nice and solid tripod; the star adventurer isn’t the greatest mount ever but probably the best of the budget ones. More solid stuff starts at maybe $1,200 new.

IMcPwn (imcpwn@infosec.exchange)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Dec-2023 06:34:16 JST IMcPwn @thomasfuchs Thank you so much for your tips awhile back on imaging Jupiter! Just wondering, do you think my tripod is the limiting factor on clarity, or am I able to invest in something like a star adventurer gti head kit when I can find one for a good price for better deep space pictures?
I'm wondering if I need to factor in the cost of a new tripod for when I'm ready for a real astrophotography upgrade.
My camera + lens is ~ 5lbs (Fujifilm X-T5 and Fujifilm XF150-600mm f5.8-f8), and the tripods limit is ~17lbs
