   Wow, I had a device with super scratchy sound. I got a "ground loop noise isolator" for ten dollars to put on the line and it fixed it perfectly.

     @Moon huh, ground loops usually result in a hum, scratchy sound tends to be poor contacts somewhere

     @Moon with everything (especially the better quality lighting) having switching power supplies these days I guess it would pick up harmonics from something like that too, alongside the usual 50 / 60hz hum
