Turns out Starship Troopers was originally a book, so that's pretty neat. I'm starting in on it right now. I've never watched the movie, but it's my understanding that it's somewhat of a comedy? This book certainly isn't. I guess I'll have to watch the movie after I'm done with the book. Pretty decent book so far. Not amazing, but worth it at this point.
@NanoBookReview From what I understand, the film is a satire while the novel's author was more serious and REALLY liked the whole idea of a military state. I don't use the word lightly but the author was a documented fascist sympathizer - it is throughout many of his novels.
It is amazing that you can have the same story treated VERY differently. The film is pretty awesome - a great, pitch perfect satire of jingoism and militarism. Made by the same person who made the original Robocop.
