Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 21-Dec-2023 23:04:15 JST Sexy Moon @a1ba there's a reddit story by a guy who put one of these in a coworker's office and somebody found it and they assumed it was a cyber spying device and shut down the whole company to sweep for more, and he got fired when he confessed in a company-wide meeting that he put it there and it was just a device that beeps. -

shuro (shuro@friends.deko.cloud)'s status on Friday, 22-Dec-2023 01:19:09 JST shuro @feld @Moon @a1ba One time a colleague went out and left his Nokia phone (not a smartphone but already with polyphonic ringer) on his table. I took it, reduced the ring volume to minimum, wrapped it in some plastic bags and glued it with the tape under his table. He came back, didn't find his phone and called it.
Then he spent 30 minutes turning the room upside down trying to find where that faintest sound came from. The famous Nokia ringtone turned out to be super hard to pinpoint.

shuro (shuro@friends.deko.cloud)'s status on Friday, 22-Dec-2023 01:26:14 JST shuro @feld @Moon @a1ba Also when I worked there my boss started hearing "beeps". One beep every few hours. He made a fuss about it because he thought some UPS was giving out or something (especially since we had makeshift server room right in there).
For quite some time we thought he was just being the mean motherfucker we knew him to be. Then I heard the beep one day as well.
We searched but found nothing. Beeps kept coming, about one per day. Every now and then the boss used them as an excuse to lash out at someone. This went for months.
Then we had to move and when they took out the furniture I found old Motorola phone someone dropped behind the table. It didn't have sim and was extremely low on battery and apparently when it was low on battery it beeped at increasingly longer intervals.
