     @allison I'm stupid and should have torrented old reliable Windows XP lite from pirate bay but I'm on archive.org to get a 32-bit lite xp installer for a VM (next QEMU won't be able to find the cd-r passthrough, I already know the future.)

     Windows XP is pretty niche these days when people have WINE, and ia32 is basically dead. Closed source is harder to archive. :shrugz:

     @thendrix tons of stuff doesn't work in wine, maybe 50% of what I try. sometimes you can get it to work by swapping in true Windows DLLs or fiddling with bottles to simulate different Windows setups.

     That’s interesting, I even had Japanese apps and even compiler toolchains work fine. Must use some odd API or some hack for DRM.
