   It's pretty much a given that 2024 is going to be the year of the Fediverse, #activitypub, Mastodon and more.

   One year ago, I decided I was going to host my own little single-user Mastodon instance in order to control my future here. It's looking more and more like the right decision.

   It's a little thing over on Vultr, running Ubuntu. Literally minimal maintenance. Never really any downtime. I follow about 1000 people and about 2000 follow me and no strain.

   I spend about $12 a month on it. Minimal investment for a massive return.

     @lori Have never had any issues here. Like, for real. I just go in and vaccum logs once in a while - I should cron it - and have a purge/cleanup script. Most of my media goes off to S3, so maybe that is what gives me stabilty.

     @jimcarroll #Mastodon is minimal maintenance in 2GB RAM? Something to consider. I love me some #Friendica, but it's a crash-o-matic in my low-end box, mostly from #mariadb getting axed by the "OOM-killer".
