   @cwebber @mcc flashbacks to the "spatial navigation" debacle of 2006

   i can't believe it's been 20 years and Nautilus (GNOME itself!) still sucks so much ass

     @est @cwebber Basically I look at fvwm or kde and i'm like this is so ugly, please think even a little bit about design. And then I look at gnome, and I'm like ahh that's better, and then I use gnome for 15 minutes and start running into all of the baffling decisions it makes, and I'm like okay. Okay actually I am going to need you to *not* think about design so hard. You overthought it.

     @mcc @est @cwebber Meanwhile decent GUI design for me is: I see the screen and with just looking around I can find what I want.
     Good is when it's comfortable to use.
     
     The opposite is having to do trial-and-error on the various buttons, special offense for destructive ones that do not have any visual difference. Because that's even worse than a point-and-click game.
