   Bernie Sanders is telling #Biden to reconsider aid to #Israel because of what’s going on in #Gaza. Remember, while there are many people who tend to think that Bernie and Biden are at very different places on the political spectrum, they are actually friends and agree on ~90% of things.

     What #Bernie and #Biden *can* do of course is stop sending American support to #Israel.

     They don’t need this as much as most people think, at least in the short term, so it won’t stop what’s going on in #Gaza right away (unfortunately).

     At least, I doubt it will, because #Netanyahu and the right-wing government are *very* invested in doing what they’re doing. They have staked their political futures on it.

     Also neither #Bernie nor #Biden is going to call for a #ceasefire in #Gaza - partly because it means something more specific than “stop wantonly killing civilians/violating the Geneva Conventions” but also because #Israel is going to say no and we will have accomplished precisely nothing.

     (This doesn’t mean activists should stop calling for a ceasefire, “ceasefire” is a synecdoche/shorthand for a lot of things as an activist demand.)
