   Meet Kate Cox

   Texan, 31, mom of two

   She learned her fetus had a fatal condition. Carrying the pregnancy to term could jeopardize her health

   She petitioned to get an abortion and won

   The TX Supreme Court blocked the lower court ruling while it decides her fate

   This, as Ken Paxton threatens any professional who administers care

   Ironically, Paxton wrote the judge allowing the procedure was “not medically qualified to make this determination”

   Kate had to leave TX for her procedure

     CHAPTER 165. PENALTIES
     SUBCHAPTER A. ADMINISTRATIVE PENALTIES

     Sec. 165.159. PRACTICING MEDICINE WITHOUT REGISTRATION. (a) A person commits an offense if the person practices medicine without complying with the registration requirements imposed by this subtitle.

     (b) An offense under Subsection (a) constitutes the offense of practicing medicine without a license.

     Now, Ken Paxton's "practicing medicine" in TX requires charging money or other compensation for a diagnosis, treatment, etc., but why should rules apply? And why not find an indirect charge, a negative compensation, caused by the state's transferring the burden and risk?

     @flexghost Didn’t Texas make it illegal to leave the State for this care? Which looks unconstitutional (interstate trade) to me. So now there will be another trial (going to the Supreme Court, no doubt). This poor lady. All this artifice on top of the real tragedy.

     There could not be a stronger case for an exception to Texas' abortion law than #KateCox.

     It was a wanted pregnancy. She has two children and wants more. The fetus is not viable. Forcing her to take the pregnancy to term may make it impossible for her to bear children in the future, or even make orphans of her two children.

     Republicans claimed there were exceptions to the Texas abortion law. They lied, and here's the proof. They want no exceptions.
