@allison the only vns i know are the meme tier ones i barely play them I just laugh at youtube comment schizos as of late; there's a whole VN review channel where the comments are "I played fucked up VN also (entire life story)"
@PurpCat@allison >play It's a picture book, there's nothing to play unless the devs introduce some gimmicks like JRPG dungeons in Persona series. I've only read most of SciAdv and a first few chapters of Higurashi. No estrogen prescription yet.
@mint@PurpCat baldr series as I understand it integrates realtime 2d mech combat into the broad template of a visual novel. as for the estrogen prescription, I think you have the causality backwards, you can read fucked up vns without being trans, but if you're trans, there's a very good chance you read fucked up vns and see their esoteric meanings.
@PurpCat@allison that's what secondhand means. anyway, this is like saying the "fanbase of manga" puts you off so you'll never read manga. i find there are 4 main types of avid VN readers (in order of commonality, also note that there is overlap): 1) the normies who read meme shit like danganronpa, steins gate, and dokidoki shitter club and have, on average, the according lowest common denominator IQ; 2) the gooners who read eroge and especially nukige and just want to goon (altho, a scant few eroge actually have good stories that are worth reading even if you are like me and not into porn (no srsly, i don't fap to porn i fap to horror)); 3) the chuds who are "rediscovering" the horror and thriller classics as le based and redpilled right wing art and trying to "gatekeep" them against "the troons" or whatever strawman of twitter users they don't like, and granted these twitter users are braindead retards, but note that neither these chuds nor said twitter users actually read VNs (they watch condensed monkeybrained anime adaptations and read plot summaries and pretend this is equivalent to taking the time to read the story because they are either too autistic or too mindmelted by social media to understand substance is more important than form); and 4) people like me who actually fucking read, and read the good shit. this is the rarest breed but you can distinguish them by their ability to not only understand and appreciate the material but also to interpret, preserve, and take inspiration from it rather than just viewing it the way the first category does, of fiction as junk food to be devoured and shat out merely to pass the time. can't tell yet if i'm wasting my breath on you or not but i try to give people the benefit of the doubt because i'm nice. incidentally this is why i stopped poaching cute dumb little 18 year olds off twitter, cuz i learned the hard way you can't just *make* someone with room temperature IQ operate anywhere near one's own level and keep up with me on my epic shenanigans :honkler:
@allison@PurpCat they say good art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable, but neither applies here because art is a language you are both too autistic to speak which is why you don't know anything about subahibi and are only able to identify it by its genre(s) and audience
