     @chronomyst chop the top off and dry it out i would guess.
     there might be something they put on it to seal it afterward

     But how do I clean out the inside without cutting it open? I just want one hole in it.

     You just need to remove the inner parts and keep it dry iirc. Is this for a birdhouse?

     @chronomyst @thendrix i'm not sure how they historically cleared it out. there might have been some kind of tiny knife on a stick they used to scrape it for all i know.

     @thendrix @icedquinn So far:

     1) I drilled a hole into the flat side of the gourd.

     2) I poured in a volatile mixture of chemicals to dissolve the guts

     3) I poured out the guts

     4) I poured in chemical dessicant

     5) I cleaned out the dessicant and salted the inside and outside

     6) I poured 90% rubbing alcohol inside and coated the outside, then lit the whole thing on fire

     7) I threw it in a big fire pit for a few minutes

     8) I boiled it

     Now I will do more.

     Normally for drinking gourd you would cut a hole from where you plan to drink, but when I was a kid people made them into birdhouses.

     You likely need to condition the inside to waterproof it much like for a waterskin. If you can’t find drinking gourd DIY try looking for waterskin to find a source you can ask.
