     @realcaseyrollins i'm not sure why people hate stoics so much. the school version was "oh they pretend not to feel things" but that's just state propaganda.
     
     marcus aurelius felt a lot of things and wrote very much how he hated everyone for being stupid all the time :blobcatgoogly:

     @realcaseyrollins there is an actual greek philosopher who taught the school of stoic philosophy and marcus aurelius was a student. so that guy and meditations are largely considered to be stoicism. also notable is that in the age of sophistry, stoicism was also free to attend.

     i think its more accurate to the partial texts i’ve heard to say its more about internal willpower and obtaining the right to command over yourself. outwardly this appears like an unfeeling robot because when you become your own controller instead of an animal your reactions are included in that.

     @mischievoustomato @realcaseyrollins there is another book called "High Status" that says some similar stuff in this regard. people see command of self as high status, authoritative, one of the mentioned cases if you want to flag as an important person is to be non-reactive to stimulus (ex. the movie scenes where people walk in an office and the guy makes *them* wait while he finishes tending to the ship in a bottle before taking the meeting)
