Yogthos (yogthos@mas.to)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 05:10:42 JST Yogthos @thomasfuchs sure a minivan would be another good comparison, key point is that these megatrucks are a fairly recent phenomenon, and clearly people got on just fine without them for decades. My impression is that it's basically the modern version of buying a Hummer.

Mobile Suit Golem (kpopncommunism@union.place)'s status on Friday, 08-Dec-2023 05:19:25 JST Mobile Suit Golem @thomasfuchs @yogthos something else to mention about that modern truck is the absurd ride height. If I am hit, as a pedestrian, by your average minivan or even that old boat of a car - I am going to fare better than the solid wall impact of a modern Pavement Princess truck.
