   Being blind is weird. Either that, or being me is weird.

   I can navigate around complex buildings, like large schools or office buildings, with nothing more than memorization and my cane, but I still don't get how Emojis work. Or how you represent something 3-dementional on a flat piece of paper.

     @TheQuinbox I also wanted to answer the "represent something 3-dimensional on a flat piece of paper" question but only got around to the Emoji part back then because it was easier to describe.

     There are basically two types of representing 3D objects, type 1 is realistic, type 2 is mathematical. Type 1 can be split into parallel and non-parallel.

     @TheQuinbox Let's start with parallel. Think of a pyramid with a square at the bottom. It's standing on a table and you are bowed over it, looking down. It's made from a soft squishy material. Take your hand and squish it down. What remains? The square, and a diagonal cross where the edges that used to go up to the point were. When we look at a pyramid from the top how do we know it's a pyramid and not a square with a cross? Mostly shadows. Two sides are light, two sides are darker.

     @TheQuinbox Still type 1 (realistic) but non-parallel. The parallel projection works well for objects in the center. But you have probably heard that things farther away look smaller, even though I guess that might sound stupid to blind people. Now imagine you sit on one side of a room, preferably a larger room. The top left, bottom left, top right and bottom right edge of the room go away from you. Far away = smaller, so the lines go closer to each other far away.

     @TheQuinbox This is how we see it in real life and this is how we have to draw it on a piece of paper.
     Other parallel lines that are parallel in reality remain parallel on paper: the edge of the room from left to right at the top and from left to right at the bottom are parallel in reality and on paper.
     The edge of the room that goes up to down on the left and the one that goes up to down on the right are parallel in reality and on paper.
     Only the edges going away from you are affected.

     @TheQuinbox Now type 2, mathematical depiction of 3D objects. Not meant to be realistic, but useful for e.g. writing length at edges. Think of a cube, you look at it from the front. In reality you would only see a square. A mathematical picture has a second square, the back side, a bit further up right, and the edges connecting those corners. Lines that would not be visible are dotted.

     @TheQuinbox Copying @bmoore123 because he also said in March he doesn't understand how to represent 3D objects in two dimensions, maybe this is a useful description (navigate to this toot and then up).
