    I have a bunch of rechargeable batteries in a rotation, is there a good and reliable way to determine which ones are in the worst shape when I want to throw out the worst and add new ones?

    Some kind of gadget that will run a test over n batteries for a day and tell me which of them to keep vs bin?

      Someone here may, know, but I'd be willing to bet if you contacted Dustin at 'Smarter Everyday' he could if not tell you, he'd be able to tell you how to find out. E-mail him.

      @Sophistifunk you can check internal resistance, but you don't have access to an expensive meter. You're best off getting a battery discharge tester, depends how much you want to spend to know the condition of your batteries. Many electronic loads will count amp hours, you could discharge it to a set voltage (say 3v per cell) and see how much of the original rating the pack has left.

      @thadius nimh, they're eneloops coz they keep charge on the shelf best. And don't randomly catch fire.

      @Sophistifunk I work with lithium's. Don't know shit about NiMH. Would be the same thing though. Just not sure about the internal resistance, but it would have to follow ohms law.

      @Sophistifunk if they're just 1.5v cells then there are battery testers online that'll do em.

      I know you can bounce AA cells to check if they're dead. Don't know if it works with rechargeable s

      @Sophistifunk the length that they hold their charge or stay in use. As they depreciate they will be less effective.

      @thadius I don't want to become a battery engineer, I just want a gadget to tell me which batteries are closer to death than the others :)

      @Sophistifunk think this thing was 20 bucks from aliexpress or somewhere. Does lithium 18650's at .5, 1, 2 and 3 amps. Gives you an Ah readout when its done so you know the remaining capacity. Bet they make one for your old ass tech ;P

      @Jradical @thadius @Sophistifunk you would need to measure voltage when dead, and then again after a timed period of charging.

      @thadius @Sophistifunk Have you seen these? Seems like you can just check voltage after they've been charging for a bit and base it on voltage

      @Sophistifunk I'm swimming in eneloop batteries. They are great for all the reasons you mentioned.

      I'm pretty liberal with just writing them off if they wont take a charge. But if you find a way to evaluate them or stumble onto a means to recondition them please share. Thanks

      @thadius
