     @alex the browser is good enough to prevent leaking connections now I guess. you could restrict network with CSP and it could be safe I guess.

     @Moon It's safe. But it gives weirdly too much control. There needs to be a standardized game format for the web.

     @eriner @Moon You should not be able to just render an HTML file and then call it a "game". You should have to have to render to a canvas element, and the canvas should have an API.

     @alex @Moon I mean... any website could do the same. So I don't know what "too much control" is in this context.

     FWIW, Itch.io works the same way.

     @alex @Moon I haven't uploaded it to itch.io yet (been working on packaging it for Android and iOS), but it is something that I could iframe and submit to itch.io: https://quizzle.game/

     I don't use canvas APIs or anything. But it's for sure a game.

     There’s also a list of plenty of other fantasy consoles, some that are FOSS and web-friendly: https://github.com/paladin-t/fantasy

     Ironically, I wouldn’t be surprised if some consistent subset of Flash or Shockwave would actually be a fair option, as most of the security complaints about Flash were mainly for it being too privileged and having unsafe methods of browser integration (and ‘trusting’ Adobe to solely steward all this). Whereas running Flash stuff in Ruffle, within a webpage (not with any extended privileges in a browser plugin or desktop app) really wouldn’t be too controversial.

     There are actually still some funded competitions on Newgrounds of still producing Flash content yet, even in like 2022 or so.
