Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 04:38:06 JST Sexy Moon @alex the browser is good enough to prevent leaking connections now I guess. you could restrict network with CSP and it could be safe I guess. In conversation permalink Alex Gleason likes this. -

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 04:45:03 JST Alex Gleason @Moon It's safe. But it gives weirdly too much control. There needs to be a standardized game format for the web. In conversation permalink -

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 04:47:23 JST Alex Gleason @eriner @Moon You should not be able to just render an HTML file and then call it a "game". You should have to have to render to a canvas element, and the canvas should have an API. In conversation permalink -

Matt Hamilton [Maryland] (eriner@noagendasocial.com)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 04:47:25 JST Matt Hamilton [Maryland] @alex @Moon I mean... any website could do the same. So I don't know what "too much control" is in this context.
FWIW, Itch.io works the same way.

Matt Hamilton [Maryland] (eriner@noagendasocial.com)'s status on Sunday, 03-Dec-2023 04:51:17 JST Matt Hamilton [Maryland] @alex @Moon I haven't uploaded it to itch.io yet (been working on packaging it for Android and iOS), but it is something that I could iframe and submit to itch.io: https://quizzle.game/
I don't use canvas APIs or anything. But it's for sure a game.

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Dec-2023 13:49:08 JST Alex Gleason @arcanicanis @Moon Which of these fantasy consoles actually have games? Any worth playing?
I was already thinking about adding support for Ruffle. Great comment. In conversation permalink -

arcanicanis (arcanicanis@were.social)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Dec-2023 13:49:10 JST arcanicanis There’s also a list of plenty of other fantasy consoles, some that are FOSS and web-friendly: https://github.com/paladin-t/fantasy
Ironically, I wouldn’t be surprised if some consistent subset of Flash or Shockwave would actually be a fair option, as most of the security complaints about Flash were mainly for it being too privileged and having unsafe methods of browser integration (and ‘trusting’ Adobe to solely steward all this). Whereas running Flash stuff in Ruffle, within a webpage (not with any extended privileges in a browser plugin or desktop app) really wouldn’t be too controversial.
There are actually still some funded competitions on Newgrounds of still producing Flash content yet, even in like 2022 or so.

Alex Gleason (alex@gleasonator.com)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Dec-2023 13:54:19 JST Alex Gleason @olmitch @Moon @arcanicanis Once I solve the basics with Ditto, my plan is to create a dedicated Arcade tab in the sidebar, which loads a list of games people have uploaded and the ability to comment on and rate them.
