@phf@berniethewordsmith@pluralistic In addition, Mozilla. is mostly funded by Google so I can't see Firefox supporting the old Manifest V2 version long term (their most recent statement is a "wait and see") plus they're embracing Manifest V3 anyway.
If you still use #Chrome, you may want to know that #Google is limiting its extension capabilities because they do not like ad blocking. Google makes your browser to work against you by twiddling the buttons, as @pluralistic said. Work against this by using #Firefox a browser that will always be yours.
@berniethewordsmith@pluralistic Seems to me that Firefox will only "be yours" until it's not. After all, there are "open source" builds of Chrome as well but apparently that's not enough to counter the big Googly-Moogly? So once the Googly-Moogly buys Mozilla guess what?
My biggest fear is if Google pulls the plug at that funding if Firefox becomes too popular. Then what? Not to mention if the DOJ wins the US v. Google antitrust trial as Mozilla testified that "they have a lot to lose".
Once again, Mozilla's many years of mismanagement dating back to the start of WebExtentions, the Yahoo deal and not finding an alternative revenue stream is basically shooting them the foot.
@joeo10@phf@pluralistic If Google pulls out financially speaking, then it will be our turn to help. I would rather give my money to Mozilla. People's money brought Firefox to the New York Times before
@berniethewordsmith@phf@pluralistic Mozilla surely needs new leadership that's for certain and they need to rebuild a lot of people's trust. There's a reason why people are using forks such as LibreWolf nowadays.
