Out of idle curiosity (I'm watching Border Control...):
if I travel to $someOtherCountry to stay there and "work from home" for my German employer, does that work on a tourist visa?
I mean, I'm not taking a job away from the locals?

@daniel that is good to know :-)
But visa-wise, am I a tourist, or am I working?
@danielaKay @daniel Everyone‘s favorite answer: It depends. Of course don’t need a visa at all in the EU, such as sunny Portugal or Spain‘s Balearic Islands.
Outside the EU, there are several countries that offer remote work or „digital nomad“ visas, maybe most famous and attractive among them is Thailand. A full list can be found online.
@danielaKay you might get in trouble with your health insurance. Your employer has to „entsenden“ you, otherwise workplace health insurance doesn’t apply. Additionally you’ll get erstwohnsitz related tax troubles after a few months.
Source: I apparently have to know this because I run a business in Germany and it’s 90% paperwork 🙄
