Agreed and here's the cliff of emissions reductions.
@peterdutoit Anything short of a binding commitment during #COP28 to phase OUT ALL fossil fuels (abated or unabated) at a rate in line with the Paris Agreement would represent the ultimate failure of the COP process and a horrible crime against humanity.
Any party opposing this unmasks itself as a perpetrator in such criminal act.

And true to the above form, there is now this:
“UAE officials running the talks are warning it may be impractical to call for the complete death of fossil fuels — infuriating activists and vulnerable countries.”
@largess @peterdutoit Agreed. Which means failure to meet 1.5C is, in the best case imminent, but most likely de facto already happened. Which means COP has failed. World “leaders” have failed. Decision makers have failed. Governments have failed.
But will anyone say the truth and it’s consequences in this COP? No. We’ll hear “keep 1.5C alive”, “ambitious targets”, “deal in reach”, and more blah blah blah
