It's funny that they told me not to trust wikipedia in high school when at this point it's the only link in the first page of google results that was written by humans intending to convey information

phiofx (phiofx@hachyderm.io)'s status on Wednesday, 29-Nov-2023 01:11:02 JST phiofx @alexture @hannah some recent title about wikipedia refered to it as the last good place on the internet which sadly rings true
it is a singular place unlike any other "top" website, there is no doubt about this
the question is how does this factual reality percolate through the mix of algorithms, weights, and variety of business and other "optimizations"
my guess (but it is just that) is that there is an element of target seeking. precisely because wikipedia is not just another statistic.

Alex (alexture@todon.eu)'s status on Wednesday, 29-Nov-2023 01:11:04 JST Alex @phiofx @hannah wikipedia has amazing SEO, notably through its giant web with billions of internal links and also through its many, many links from other places. it's not because it's not written for SEO that it doesn't have good SEO − that's just what SEO « optimizers » who don't care about the actual content (want us to) believe.
