   One of the surprising things about my dependencies blog post is how many comments shit on gamedevs as being super inefficient and out of date with the times.

   Game devs have historically loved to shit on web dev. I feel like the inverse didn’t used to be true. But now it is?

   The middle of post contained the phrase “my background is C++ gamedev” and that got quoted in a LOT of places. All very negatively.

   Very curious!

     @forrestthewoods not sure if it’s “gamedevs”, or just general view towards anyone mentioning c++. So it’s basically this:

     @forrestthewoods Meanwhile it's sadly understandable to me, as a developer there's been many times where I nearly ended up vendoring a dependency, only reason I didn't is because I'm also a packager.
     And I think there's a massive technical debt on system package managers, plus a lot of catch-up to do in terms of ease-of-use, they ought to be much better solution than currently.

     @forrestthewoods For example the lack of setup/environment reproducibility, which explains docker being used by sysadmins as well.
     It's also a bit linked with the lack of flexibility when it comes to versions, for most systems only one version is available in package repositories, some going for the very latest, others freeze all the versions at once for "stable" branches where then only security fixes and few bugfixes are applied.

     @lanodan can you tell me more about the technical debt on packagers? I’m much less familiar with that world.
