@RickiTarr I voted yes, but it depends what you mean by legalized. I think sex work, like all work, should be removed from the purview of laws altogether. Sometimes legalization means regulation, like with cannabis. In practice that allows just as much police violence as criminalization. Sometimes legalization in the sense of absolute nonregulation is called decriminalization, which is what I voted yes for.

It is a pickle.

I don't know. There are a lot of Madames and pimps out there. "Escort" services, etc. Look at the Bunny Ranch.
In a perfect world, sex workers would work for themselves. But in the real world, no matter what you're selling, taking the business part out, advertising, marketing, accounting, etc., you have more time for the work and can usually get more.
Look at caretakers. Get a babysitter on an app from a company that holds the insurance

Is it possible to bracket the question of factories and banks? I take your point, but I think those industries are fundamentally different from sex work, which always involves a transaction between individuals. Without police interference I don't see why sex workers would ever work for employers. There's no benefit to either producer or consumer for branded sex. Decriminalization is what sex work activists I respect support, and their arguments make sense to me having watched legal but regulated cannabis in California not slow down police violence at all.

Mary625 (mary625@mstdn.social)'s status on Friday, 01-Dec-2023 09:43:18 JST Mary625 That's something I disagree with on some level. Look what factories did to the environment without any regulations. What banks do even with some regulations. My problem with no regulations on sex work would be things like the McSex where corporations are forcing 10 blowjobs an hour etc
