   @newt @SlicerDicer @feld @methyltheobromine @piggo @Moon That "complete and utter garbage" was still enough to readily kill the x86 shrinkwrap SysV market outside of UnixWare by 1995 or so and provide a ready migration path for grizzled ex-SunOS partisans. This probably says less about the quality of Linux and more about the quality of everything around it tho.

     @allison @SlicerDicer @feld @methyltheobromine @piggo @newt Other than UnixWare I wonder how big the deployed base of x86 proprietary unix was, everybody I knew running unix made fun of x86. I actually used UnixWare nearly every day while at university (Blockbuster Video, where I worked, all the POS systems were UnixWare lol)

     @CumskinFoidPuncher69420 @SlicerDicer @feld @allison @methyltheobromine @piggo @newt My first job out of school all our systems were RS-6000 AIX and for many workloads they were far better, just not for "running apache and java application servers"
