@paolo @onepict I think it's pretty clear they aren't interested in a solution. The trainer is used to Zoom. If they'd just said "due to the technical issues yesterday the next session will be held on Zoom. We're sorry about this and we're working with the BBB folks to resolve the issues" I'd understand, but the language in the email said that no FOSS or European software was suitable, unlike a "proven commercial solution" like Zoom.

It wasn't just what was said, but how it was said.

@onepict I don't know what setup they had but I hosted meetings with nearly 200 people in a room on my BBB instance. That was done with version 2.4, if they use 2.5 or 2.6 (still in beta) the performances seem to be much better.
Or they used the BBB demo instance which, being a demo has no capacity guarantees, or they didn't provide enough resources/bandwidth. In either cases, IMHO, they should not blame BBB.
Happy to check things out with them.

@paolo @dentangle but about 15 people missed the seminar this week as they failed to send the meeting link said there was a problem then started up about 10 to 15 minutes late.

There were also bandwidth issues so not everyone connected their camera which the trainer likes people to do

@paolo @dentangle I received an email from them about the workshop, which I then forwarded to dentangle.

Given the fact that they wanted us to encourage other projects to attend the workshops I felt it was best let other projects know.

Especially given the setback from BBB. They gave us no details as to why it failed, they sent the text as dentangle quoted.

@dentangle Where did they announce that?
Any explanations about what issues they found?

To my utter astonishment, the NGI Outreach Office just declared all Open Source conferencing software as unfit for purpose.

"Following the technical problems and limitations we encountered when trying to use the open-source BigBlueButton software, we have decided to revert to a
proven commercial solution, ZOOM. We are fully aware that this technical choice is not fully in line with some of the values promoted by the NGI initiative..."
