   There's definitely some hypocrisy in the standards leftists expect of people who escape right wing grooming.
   
   Most discourse calls for honesty in acknowledging harmful biases, not to validate them but to be honest that we don't escape our cultural conditioning.
   
   But then when someone does that it's used against them as proof that they are irredeemable despite acknowledging it as a bad thing worth deconstructing.
   
   I think that's pathetic and immature and I have no respect for people who expect dishonesty and pretending that you've always been 100% perfect with correct worldviews. We don't live in a society that cultivates perfect worldviews, we live in a shitty broken violent and prejudiced society that cultivates harm and the first step to unlearning that is to be honest about it.

     @eris i have said before that i would be a hypocrite if i did this. I give people a few chances if they are able to respect me and desire a chance to do better. I wouldnt be an anarchist now if i wasnt allowed to change and unlearn my harmful beliefs

     @eris people in social justice orgs that actually do things out in the material world are actually pretty good at meeting people where they're at, especially relative to the online discourse machine. after all, ya can't build solidarity by alienating everybody

     @eris I wonder if I'd have this perspective if I hadn't lived my whole life in the deep south. I suspect not. you can't run solo forever waiting for the perfect allies to show up.
