   Sometimes I wonder if I should carry on blocking people when they do weird or rude replies in the comments, like I get that there’s a parasocial element to this, people feel like we’re friends and decide to respond as they would to a close friend, but often I only know them from maybe two or three replies to a couple of posts, so it’s incredibly one sides and it weirds me out.

   Think I’d be a lot more popular if I could just ignore it

     @BethanyBlack I've got a hard rule that if Facebook shows me a comment from a friend on a post in a group I'm not a member of I will block the group. I've definitely blocked groups with interesting content as a result, and think about changing this rule sometimes. But for me it's easier to just have the rule and always follow it than to have to make a situational decision every time.

     @BethanyBlack It can be a bit weird from the other side, too. I follow a few famous people, see quite a lot of their posts, and sometimes post a reply, without really expecting them to reply back. When I have had a reply, it's somehow a big thing that Famous Person replied to me, how do I deal with this, should I go and hide under a rock, or something?

     @BethanyBlack I realise I'm doing it right now, but I really never got the hang of how you're supposed to engage with people you don't know on le socials. (For the record IDK how to do it in real life either!) Like, I enjoy their posts and appreciate their vibe but when is it OK to reply and when is it weird?? And then if someone I don't know replies to me I usually freeze and don't know how to respond even if they're nice so I just give it a like and ghost them. Anyway sorry for being weird.

     @jodievdw i think it’s always okay to reply, unless you’re jumping in a conversation between two people you don’t know, it was more about when people switch into very familiar ways of talking when you’re clearly not close enough to do that
